Colleagues Colloquium Explores Preparations for the 'Big One'

What:

David D. Bowman, chair and associate professor of geological sciences at Cal State Fullerton, will explore the earthquake hazard in our own backyard and describe efforts to prepare California’s infrastructure for the infamous – and inevitable – “Big One” during a Sept. 24 College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Colleagues Colloquium meeting. The event is open to the public.

“Earthquakes are not preventable, but earthquake deaths are and damage can be minimized,” explains Bowman, a member of the Southern California Earthquake Center Board of Directors.

When:

Thursday, Sept. 24 Registration at 7 a.m. Program from 7:30 - 9 a.m.

Where:

Coyote Hills Golf Course, 1440 E. Bastanchury Road, Fullerton, 92835

Background:

Bowman, a member of the international Collaboratory for the Study of Earthquake Predictability, will discuss why earthquakes are so difficult for scientists to understand and predict. He also will review the fundamentals of earthquake preparedness.

Cost:

$10 for the public and free to members of the CSUF Colleagues Colloquium of Natural Sciences and Mathematics
