Summer Youth Sports Programs Offered at CSUF

New Programs Add Rock Climbing, Sports Performance to Activities

Youngsters from kindergarten through eighth grade can spend the summer learning new games, sports activities and having fun at the Titan Youth Sports Camp, offered by Titan Recreation, a program of the Cal State Fullerton Associated Students' Recreation Sports.

New this year are Rock Wall and Sports Performance Enhancement camps and Pre-Fitness for Kids in the university's newly opened Student Recreation Center.

Rock Wall Camp is for youth 13 to 17 years of age. The half-day sessions are offered from

1 - 4 p.m. on a weekly basis beginning June 16 and continue through Aug. 8. No climbing experience is necessary; all abilities will be accommodated.

Youngsters from kindergarten through eighth grade take part in art and crafts as part of youth camps this summer.

The Sports Performance Enhancement Camp is for young people entering the seventh through 12th grades this fall. The program focuses on sport-specific skills with emphasis on speed, agility, strength training and conditioning. Two three-week sessions are offered beginning June 24. The program runs Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. - noon.

Pre-Fitness for Kids classes are offered July 8 - Aug. 14 and are geared to children ages 18 months to 5 years and their parents. The 45-minute classes focus on movement and nutrition. One class per week over the course of the six-week session is offered.

College students lead youngsters in various dance moves as part of the summer youth programs offered by CSUF Associated Students’ Recreation Sports.

Other youth programs offered this summer include Rookie Camp for youngsters in kindergarten through fourth grade and a Free Agent Camp for youngsters in grades five to eight. Both are offered in one-week sessions of sport-related activities from June 23 through Aug. 1. Participants can sign up for morning, afternoon or full-day sessions. Extended childcare options are available.

The annual Learn to Swim Program, certified by the American Red Cross, is offered for children six months and older; adult classes also are available, as are private lessons. Each class meets for 30 minutes in 10-day sessions. Saturday classes are 40 minutes long. Sessions are held from June 16 through Aug. 9.
