Cal State Fullerton Celebrates Commencement 2008

Record Number of Participants Expected May 17-18

What:

Almost 10,000 graduates and candidates for graduation are eligible to participate in Cal State Fullerton's 2008 Commencement ceremonies May 17 and 18. The main ceremonies are open to the public, and more than 50,000 celebrants are expected. Tickets are required for the college exercises that follow.

When/Where:

Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18
8 a.m. university ceremonies on the athletics fields north of Titan Gym
9:45 a.m. (approximate) college and department exercises at various locations on campus - schedule follows.

Who:

NASA astronaut Tracy E. Caldwell, a Cal State Fullerton graduate (B.S. chemistry '93), will be awarded an honorary doctorate Saturday, May 17, during the 8 a.m. ceremony.

Keynote speakers are NBC4's Orange County Bureau Chief Vikki Vargas on May 17, and author and professor Robert B. Reich, who served as secretary of labor under President Bill Clinton, on May 18.

The annual Honors Convocation to recognize student achievements will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, May 16, in the Meng Concert Hall of the university's Performing Arts Center.

The Teacher Credential Ceremony is at 5 p.m. Friday, May 16, on the lawn west of the Engineering Building.

Parking:

On-campus parking will be free and limited to vehicles with three or more occupants. Parking Lot A is designated for the disabled; shuttles will be available.
