A six-part lecture series on cancer research and treatment is being presented by Cal State Fullerton’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) beginning Jan. 31. The lectures are open to the public free of charge. |
Why: |
Last year, some 1.5 million Americans were diagnosed with cancer and another 560,000 died of the condition. Currently, an estimated 10-11 million Americans are living with cancer. OLLI’s series will explore some of the causes, with special emphasis on breast and prostate cancer, how clinical research trials can lead to new cancer treatments, and current progress in cancer treatment and research. |
Who: |
The featured presenter is John Penta, who spent 25 years as a section chief and
program director for the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of
Health in Bethesda, Md. In addition, the new OLLI member was an adjunct
associate professor of medicine at Duke University School of Medicine. |
