AC-NET Launches Clean Tech Business Plan Competition

$25,000 Grand Prize Competition Targets Local Energy and Water Innovators

A new contest aimed at new technology entrepreneurs will award $25,000 to a company that conceives the most promising technology for addressing regional energy and water challenges.

The Clean Tech Business Plan Competition is sponsored by the Anaheim Center for New Energy Technologies (AC-NET), a collaborative partnership between the city of Anaheim and Cal State Fullerton.

The Clean Tech Business Plan Competition was launched by Orange County Business Council President and Chief Executive Lucy Dunn and will give early stage entrepreneurs the opportunity to present their plans to experts representing Southern California’s venture capital, water and energy industries.

Judges will select three winning candidates with the technology that best addresses regional energy and water challenges and demonstrates profit potential in today’s marketplace. In addition to the $25,000 first-place prize, second- and third-place prizes of $10,000 and $5,000 will be awarded.

Competition presentations will be held April 15, 2009 at Cal State Fullerton’s Mihaylo College of Business and Economics. As part of the competition process, business and engineering graduate students from the university will be available as a resource to the semifinal candidates seeking assistance with their business proposals and presentations. Submission deadline is March 2, 2009.

AC-NET was proposed by Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle in his 2008 State of the City Address. “The Clean Tech Business Plan Competition is a great way to kick off AC-NET’s efforts,” said Pringle. “We know that there are great ideas out there and, with a little help from AC-NET, those ideas can find the resources and help to come to market, creating new jobs and businesses in our region.”

The center is focused on revitalizing the local and regional economy through supporting the efforts of entrepreneurs, start-ups and ventures in bringing clean water and energy technologies to market.
