Cal State Fullerton Hosts Election Season Events

Voter Mobilization, Viewing of Debates and Early Voting Among Activities

What:

Voter mobilization efforts, debates and discussions are among election season activities hosted by Cal State Fullerton and open to the public free of charge.

When:

Sept. 16-Oct. 21

Why:

The many activities are jointly sponsored by Associated Students Inc. and Public Affairs and Government Relations to help prepare campus and community members for the November election.

The goals, said Frances Teves, director of state relations and advocacy, are to: educate students about the importance of voting, the political process and the issues in this election; help register new voters; and to encourage voters to continue to make their voices heard.

Where:

Activities are scheduled in the Titan Student Union, Becker Amphitheatre and the Quad on the Cal State Fullerton campus.

Activities:

  • Sept. 16 — Voter mobilization and registration activities will be conducted along with a noon panel discussion about the election, as part of Constitution Day, in and around the Becker Amphitheatre.

  • Sept. 18 — Voter mobilization and registration continue, in conjunction with the 7 p.m. address: “A Free Press in the Age of Terror: How Much Does the Public Really Need to Know?” by New York Times writer Eric Lichtblau, in the Titan Student Union.

  • Sept. 26, Oct. 2, 7 and 15 — Campus and community members can gather to view the presidential and vice presidential debates on wide-screen TV, from 6-9 p.m. in the Titan Student Union.

  • Oct. 14 — Campus and community members can register to vote and learn about the issues during the 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Voter Mobilization Fair in Becker Amphitheatre. On- and off-campus organizations will be staffing tables to provide election information.

  • Oct. 16 — CSUF political science faculty members will discuss the “Nuts and Bolts of the Ballot” at 7 p.m. in Portola Pavilion of the Titan Student Union.

  • Oct. 21 — Early Voting Day.
