BACKGROUND:

Larry Curtis is a distinguished author, performer, educator and conductor who has established an international reputation with performances and conducting engagements in Japan, Scotland, Canada, England, Austria, Switzerland, Germany and Australia. His recent conducting engagements include the Sydney Wind Orchestra of Australia, Los Angeles Brass Ensemble, Pacific Symphony Orchestra and Americus Brass Band.

Curtis is founder of the American Winds Concert Band, a professional wind band of symphonic instrumentation, which performed its inaugural concert for the 1999 Hollywood Bowl Summer Season. The American Winds is composed of professional musicians from the Los Angeles area’s brass, wind and percussion players. This ensemble’s sound hearkens back to the Sousa and Goldman eras.

Former member of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, Patrick Sheridan’s tuba playing has taken him around the world since a young age. Sheridan debuted months after picking up the tuba in a concert in which he performed The Blue Bells of Scotland, with his mother, Diana, accompanying him. Shortly thereafter at the age of 15, Sheridan made his orchestral debut playing a Mozart horn concerto on the tuba.

Throughout his career he has studied with legendary tuba artists Arnold Jacobs, Sam Pilafian, Daniel Perantoni and Harvey Phillips. Sheridan holds a M.B.A. with an emphasis in finance and marketing from the University of Michigan. Sheridan’s touring schedule regularly takes him throughout the U.S., as well as Europe and Japan. This year his touring schedule will take him to 20 countries around the globe and 35 states across America and includes such ensembles as the Grand Rapids Symphony, Estonian National Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony, Williams Fairey Band and Unites States Army Band.

He also is the visiting professor of tuba at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England, Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, Scotland and Rotterdam Conservatory in the Netherlands. Sheridan was most recently featured on NBC’s Today Show and is regularly featured on BBC Radio and on NPR broadcasts.
