From War to Peace: A Journey of Love
Prunty’s program From War to Peace: A Journey of Love has received accolades in Paris, France (as part of the Atelier Concert series at the American Church), and in New York City (at Milbank Memorial Chapel, Teachers College, Columbia University). Her program features an eclectic mix of musical styles and languages revolving around the theme of war, its ravages on young and old alike, and the hope we find through love. Prunty says, “This recital has a very special significance to me, as a pacifist at heart,” and says she has “seen the need to musically express how important it is for the world to seek peace, and how destructive war is, especially to the innocent. This is my expression of that,” Prunty declares. Joining Prunty is special guest Richard Pearson Thomas a world-renowned pianist and composer. “Radiant, with a brilliant, translucent soprano sound, sparkling diction and a heart-stopping lyrical line…” hails the Orange County Register of the soprano’s performances. A full-time faculty member at Cal State Fullerton, she has made her mark on both the operatic and concert stage.
One of California's most popular young artists, Prunty debuted with the Los Angeles Music Center Opera in 1992, performing and understudying a number of roles including Pat Nixon in Nixon in China. As winner of the Center for Contemporary Opera’s International Competition, Prunty presented her Weill Recital Hall debut in 2000 and Carnegie Hall debut the preceding fall.
An active soloist, she continues to perform with such groups as Pacific Chorale, Pacific Symphony and Trillium Ensemble. Her many engagements have taken her to Africa, the Middle East, Paris and Stockholm, and her credits include performances with the Los Angeles Opera, San Diego Symphony and New York’s 92nd Street ‘Y’. Prunty has also performed with the San Diego Opera, Santa Fe Stages, Opera San Jose and Long Beach Opera. On the concert stage, Prunty has performed with the American Chamber Symphony of Los Angeles and the Carmel Bach Festival. Her television credits include Mother Mary in the Crystal Cathedral’s The Glory of Easter among others.
Richard Pearson Thomas, a composer and pianist, has had works performed by the Boston Pops, Covent Garden Festival, Houston Grand Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Eugene O'Neill Theater Center, Banff Centre, Skylight Opera Theatre and Riverside Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir.
His songs have been sung in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Wigmore Hall, Joe’s Pub, and before the U.S. Congress by artists such as Audra McDonald, Sanford Sylvan, Lauren Flanagan and Kurt Ollmann. He is a recipient of an American Composers’ Forum Continental Harmony commission for the Alabama Tri-State Orchestra. His work Race for the Sky, which was commissioned as a commemoration of the events of 9/11, has been performed by the Westchester Philharmonic Orchestra and in recitals nationwide.
