CSUF Moves Up in Ranks for Graduating Minorities

Magazine Ranks University Sixth in Nation Overall

Diverse Issues in Higher Education ranks Cal State Fullerton sixth in the nation for the number of bachelors degrees awarded to minority students.

The listing, based on 2006-07 data from the U.S. Department of Education, was published in Diverse Issues' June 12 Top 100 Degree Producers issue and posted online.

Cal State Fullerton also is ranked third in the nation for education degrees and fifth for business, management and marketing degrees awarded to minorities. In addition, the magazine ranks CSUF fifth in the nation and first in California for the number of undergraduate degrees to Hispanics — rankings that match those published earlier this year by Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education.

In specific undergraduate academic programs, Cal State Fullerton is ranked:

  • third for education and business degrees to Asian Americans
  • seventh for education degrees to Hispanics
  • eighth for psychology degrees to Hispanics
  • ninth in area, ethnic, cultural and gender studies, as well as business, management and marketing degrees to Hispanics
  • tenth in mathematics and statistics to Hispanics
  • 12th for English language and literature degrees to Asian Americans and Hispanics
  • 12th in health professions degrees to Hispanics

Cal State Fullerton also is named among the top 25 nationally for number of bachelor's degrees awarded to all minorities in area, ethnic, cultural and gender studies; psychology; English language and literature; health professions and mathematics

More than half of Cal State Fullerton's 37,000 students identify themselves as members of ethnic groups — the largest is Hispanic at 28 percent of the student body, followed by Asian/Pacific Islander at 22 percent.
