Betting on a Pain-Free Future
CSUF to open Fibromyalgia Research and Education Center

Cal State Fullerton’s soon-to-open Fibromyalgia Research and Education Center and the National Fibromyalgia Association (NFA) will host a “Casino Night Gala” May 11 and present “FAME” (Fibromyalgia Awareness Means Everything), a daylong May 12 seminar on managing chronic pain.

The May 11 Casino Night, complete with Vegas-style games and live entertainment, dancing and cocktails, will be held in the Titan Gym from 7 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $125 per person. Proceeds will be split between the center and the NFA.

The May 12 FAME seminar at Cal State Fullerton from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. will feature a keynote address by Dennis Turk, professor of anesthesiology and pain research and director of the University of Washington’s Fibromyalgia Research Center. Other presenters include Robert Bonakdar, director of pain management for  the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine, on “Holistic Approaches to Treatment of Chronic Pain” and Elaine M. Sullivan, a licensed counselor, on “Motivation for Behavior Change.”

In addition to speakers, a wellness fair, massage demonstrations and workshop on Tai Chi and Qigong exercises for pain management will be offered in the Kinesiology and Health Science Building. The seminar fee of $45 includes a box lunch.
