April 11, 2007 :: No. 171
Humanitarian service will be the topic of Ambassador Gaddi H. Vasquez’s keynote address April 18 at Cal State Fullerton’s third annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration.
Vasquez will focus on the value of personal commitment to humanitarian service and the urgency of fighting the war against poverty and hunger, said Stan L. Breckenridge, lecturer in Afro-ethnic studies and event organizer.
Vasquez became the eighth United States representative to the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organizations when he was appointed in 2006. Before then, he served as director of the U.S. Peace Corps.
Thomas P. Klammer, dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, will serve as the event’s master of ceremonies. Cal State Fullerton students Adriana Cortes and Eduardo Garcia will speak about their involvement in the Non-Violent Leadership Alliance and about their participation in programs that further an understanding of cultural diversity and non-violent behavior. Students also will provide musical entertainment.
The event, which includes dinner, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Titan Student Union’s Portola Pavilion. Tickets are $80 per person, but student admission is free. Reservations are required. Proceeds will help fund programs that celebrate diversity and student scholarships. For more information, visit www.fullerton.edu/mlk.
