In appreciation for alumna Lori Loftus’ generous donation to the keyboard area, piano faculty and students will present a special recital — open to the public — to honor her. Performing in the evening concert are esteemed keyboard faculty members Eduardo Delgado, Alison Edwards and Sergey Martinchuk—all who are well known for acclaimed performances in the southland and abroad. Joining them are three handpicked students Kee Yuen Lee, Hoang Nguyen, Nahee Park and Tamara Stancel.
During the early 2000s – as the walls of the new Performing Arts Center were rising from a grassy field – Lori Loftus, (bachelor of music) and founding artistic director of the Southern California Children’s Chorus, made a substantial donation to the keyboard area of Cal State Fullerton’s Department of Music. This gift was the catalyst that helped to bring to fruition the purchase of a Steinway piano from Hamburg, Germany, for the new concert hall.
Department Chair Marc Dickey explains, “Without Lori’s very generous gift, the magnificent Hamburg Steinway that resides in Meng Concert Hall would not have been a reality for us. Thanks to her, we have a truly great piano befitting of our world-class concert hall. Knowing that Lori is a music alumna makes this all the more meaningful. We are immensely in debt to Lori.”
In reflection, keyboard area coordinator Rob Watson — who traveled to Germany to pick out the “right” piano — shared after the Steinway was delivered, “one by one, our piano faculty sat down and tried out the piano, with peals of joy and delight at having an instrument to regale the masses with our musical story-telling!” He continued saying, “We thank Lori for helping make this dream come true.” |
