February 15, 2007:: No. 129
Cal State Fullerton President Milton A.
Gordon will be honored Feb. 27 with KinderCaminata’s Corazón
Award, in recognition of his longtime leadership in advancing
academic achievement of students.
The award will
be presented at the Orange County Department of Education, 200 Kalmus Drive,
Room D-1001 in Costa Mesa during KinderCaminata’s 14th annual “Dinner
Awards and Salute to Chancellors, Presidents and Superintendents.”
KinderCaminata is a nonprofit community organization in Orange
County that sponsors educational outreach to kindergarten-age
children and their families. An annual program is held in
March on community college campuses throughout the state
to commemorate the birthday of the late labor leader Cesar
Chavez and encourage thousands of kindergartners to strive
for higher education. Los Amigos of Orange County, a group
that promotes Latino empowerment, created the event.
KinderCaminata’s
board of directors decided to honor Gordon for his “excellent work in
Orange County, and especially, with the Latino community.” The Corazón
Award is the highest KinderCaminata recognition given to one person each year,
said Juan Carlos Araque, board president.
The awards ceremony
is open to the public. For more information, contact Eleazar Elizondo at 323-855-6144
