Orco Block’s
President to Receive Titan Award at Front & Center
Rick Muth will be honored for his
longtime support
January 30, 2007 :: No. 119
For his commitment to the future prosperity and health of
family-run businesses, Rick Muth, president of Orco Block
Co., will be feted Feb. 3 when Cal State Fullerton honors
the longtime Titan supporter with its Orange County Titan
Award during the university’s 12th annual Front & Center
gala.
A founding member of Cal State Fullerton’s Family Business
Council, Muth donated $500,000 last year to the College of
Business and Economics to establish an endowment for the
Rick Muth Family Chair in Family Business. The gift will
enable the Family Business Council to recruit a professor
in family business, and the gift also ensures that the council
and its goals to support family businesses will continue
on into the future.
Muth joined his family-owned business in 1975 as assistant
office manager and moved up the ranks to the leadership position
he holds today. He was honored as California Small Business
Person of the Year in 2003, has served as president of the
Concrete Masonry Association of California and Nevada, and
in 1995, chaired the National Concrete Masonry Association.
Established by Muth’s father 60 years ago, Stanton-based
Orco Block Co. is one of the nation’s top-10 concrete
block manufacturers, producing more than 500 stock items
and maintaining an ongoing emphasis on product research and
development, quality-control testing
and supporting technical studies. Its management style is
to reinvest profits back into the company.
Previous Orange County Titan Award honorees include: retired
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda; George Golleher,
retired CEO of Ralphs Grocery Co.; Robert and Marie Gray
of St. John Knits; Jim and Patti Edwards of Edwards Cinemas;
Orange County Teachers Federal Credit Union; the Angels;
Paul Folino, chairman and CEO of Emulex Corp.; and former
Rockwell chairman and CEO Donald Beall.
Front & Center begins at 8 p.m. Feb. 3 at Honda Center
(formerly Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim). The gala will feature
a concert by Chicago and will be emceed by Cal State Fullerton
