50th Anniversary Committee Named for Milestone Celebration
A combination of staff, faculty, students, alumni and area business people make up the 50th anniversary planning committee

In anticipation of Cal State Fullerton’s 50th anniversary, a planning committee has been formed to lead the yearlong activities that will be celebrated during the 2007-08 academic year.

CSUF President Milton A. Gordon has created a set of goals for the celebration. They are: to bring added visibility and recognition to the university, its programs and people; increase participation in and support for the campus and its programs; strengthen the bonds between the university and the community at large; focus on the future for Cal State Fullerton; and build an even stronger sense of community for faculty, staff, students and alumni.

Alumna Vikki Vargas (B.A. communications ’81), Orange County bureau chief for NBC/4-TV, is honorary chair of the committee. Judith Anderson, CSUF executive vice president, is serving as facilitator. Beverly Cartwright, 50th anniversary project manager, is coordinating the campuswide effort.

The committee comprises community and civic leaders, Titan alumni and university representatives. Members are, from Fullerton: longtime Titan supporter William J. McGarvey Jr.; Verne Wagner (B.A. business administration ’77) of the Presidents Associates; and James D. Young, CSUF founding chair and emeritus professor of theatre.

Also serving are: Greg Christy (B.A. theatre arts ’85), founder and CEO of Brite Ideas Inc., and his wife, Julia (B.A. theatre arts ’84) of Rancho Santa Margarita; History Subcommittee Chair Lawrence B. de Graaf of Placentia, CSUF emeritus professor of history; Geno Effler (B.A. communications ’77) of Irvine, vice president of public affairs, Volvo Cars of North America; Bobby V. McDonald (B.S. physical education ’75) of Anaheim, president, Black Chamber of Commerce of Orange County; Michael Nason of Laguna Niguel, public relations consultant; Jesse Pérez of Santa Ana, Latino segment promotions manager, Disneyland; Katherine M. Peters (M.M.’79) of Yorba Linda, president, Multimedia Services Narratus Inc.; Iris Preciado (B.A. communications and Spanish ’04) of Buena Park, account executive, Publicidad Ferrer USA; and Kerri Rupert, (B.A. business administration ’82) of Newport Beach, senior vice president/CFO, Children’s Hospital of Orange County.

Representing the university are: Bill Barrett, associate vice president, administration; JoAnn C. Carter-Wells, chair and professor of reading; Marketing Subcommittee Chair Bruce Erickson, associate vice president, university communications and marketing; Nick Eversole, director of finance, Division of the Executive Vice President; Olan Farnall, associate professor of communications; Events Subcommittee Co-chair Pamela Hillman, vice president for university advancement; Michael Hofeldt, senior graphic designer; Community Engagement Subcommittee Chair Susan Katsaros (B.A. communications ’91, M.P.A ’94), director of community relations; Irene Lange, chair and professor of marketing; Susan Lasswell, director of  IT communications; Carlos Leija (B.A. psychology ’91), executive director of alumni relations; Angela Meyer, director of public relations, Associated Students Inc.; Paul Miller, director of disabled student services; Events Subcommittee Co-chair Norma Morris, staff assistant to the president; Jan Pasquale of Physical Plant; Michael P. Perez, associate professor of sociology; Kandy Mink Salas, dean of students; Jerry Samuelson, dean of the College of the Arts; Events Subcommittee Co-chair Carrie Stewart, associate vice president, university advancement; and Heather Williams, president, Associated Students Inc.
