OLLI Offers Free Lectures That Appeal to Variety of Interests

July 28, 2006 :: No. 8

What: A variety of topics, including California politics, news reporting, Pacific pinnipeds, the Orange County Great Park and perspectives on heaven, will be discussed during the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute's (OLLI) fall lecture series beginning Sept. 14 at Cal State Fullerton.

Oct. 26— "A Lifetime of News Reporting" with Ken Reich, retired Los Angeles Times reporter

Oct. 31— "Haunted by the Plastic Debris From the Rivers to the Sea" with Gwen Lattin, Algalita Marine Research Foundation biologist

Nov. 14— "California Seals and Sea Lions, the Pacific Pinniped" with Carolyn Heath, Fullerton College assistant professor of natural history

Dec. 5— "The Wet and Dry: A History of the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific" with Diane Witmer, CSUF professor of communications and aquarium volunteer diver, and Terry Tibor, and speakers bureau coordinator

Nov. 2 and 16— "Perspectives on Heaven" with Jerry Lauer of Eastside Christian Church

Dec. 7 "The Hereafter as Viewed by Five Great Religions" with Ven Miao Hsi, Hsi Lai Buddhist Temple; Jim Swaney, minister of outreach, Eastside Christian Church; Prem Saint, CSUF emeritus professor of geological and environmental sciences; Sandy Rosen, rabbi emeritus; and Hussam Ayloush, executive director, Council on American-Islamic Relations, Southern California

Cost: Lectures are open to the public free of charge. Campus parking is available for $5 per vehicle, per day.
