SEUSSICAL: THE MUSICAL is a fantastical and spectacular
meshing of the many vivid worlds created by Dr. Seuss,
and brings to life such colorful and beloved characters
as Horton the Elephant, Layzie Mayzie, Gertrude McFuzz,
and the Whos of Whoville. According to award-winning
CSUF graduate student director Patrick Pearson, “SEUSSICAL
deals with issues that are appropriate for adults as
well as children: standing up for your beliefs, being
true to your word, using your imagination, and accepting
people for who they are.” SEUSSICAL opened
on Broadway Nov. 30, 2000, and a recent tour starring
Cathy Rigby wowed audiences at the Orange County Performing
Arts Center. SEUSSICAL has become one of the most produced
shows in regional theatres across the country.
With the Cat in the Hat as
guide to the whimsical tales of Seuss, audiences are introduced to Horton the
gentle elephant who rescues all the citizens of the tiny planet of Who. His
neighbors in the Jungle of Nool think he may be crazy for talking to a speck
of dust—except for the plain Gertrude McFuzz, who appreciates Horton
and his unique qualities. Meanwhile, on the planet of Who, lives Mr.
and Mrs. Mayor and their son Jojo, who is a “thinker of strange and wonderful
thinks.” These characters, together with many other wacky animals
and people from the brain of Seuss, make for a night of flight and fancy—filled
with a score that ranges from R&B to Latin to Pop music. Ages 4 and up.
Kazuyo Sekiguchi is the scenic
designer, Cassie Stone is the costume designer, Eric Wenzel is the lighting
designer, Hannah Ince is the make-up designer, and the sound designer is John
Fisher. |
