Teachers to Spend Saturday Learning
How to Build Bridges to the Future

October 4. 2006 :: No. 35

What: High school and intermediate school teachers from Costa Mesa, Santa Ana, Los Angeles, Compton, Lakewood, Santa Barbara, Riverside and the Imperial Valley will be spending this Saturday in the classroom to get students excited about math, science and engineering. The 100 teachers — all involved with the statewide MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) program — will be attending the daylong Southern MESA Advisors Regional Training at Cal State Fullerton.
When:

Saturday, Oct. 7
8:15 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Where: Various classrooms in the Computer Science Building
Additional: The program, sponsored by Cal State Fullerton’s MESA program, will feature sessions on early assessment, crystal growing, building bridges from popsicle sticks and manila folders, mousetrap cars, soil science and Web design. The workshops will be led by representatives from Cal State Fullerton, CSU Long Beach and the University of California campuses of Riverside and Irvine.
MESA: MESA is a statewide program designed to help educationally disadvantaged students excel in math and science. The program at Cal State Fullerton has been assisting students for more than 25 years.
