MAMM Foundation Presents University With $100,000 for Performing Arts
Additional MAMM Alliance for the Performing Arts to underwrite special guest artists, performances, equipments and to support programs.

June 14, 2006 :: No. 277

During her lifetime, arts patron Marcy Arroues Mulville was credited with founding, supporting and advancing more than 26 nonprofit organizations, starting with Cal State Fullerton, where she founded the Music Associates. She was a key figure in the early years of the Pacific Symphony Orchestra and donor to the CSUF’s Performing Arts Center.

More than 30 years later, her legacy continues at the university as the Marcy Arroues Mulville Memorial (MAMM) Foundation — named for the late philanthropist — Tuesday presented $100,000 to Cal State Fullerton to establish an endowment for performing arts programming.

Additionally, the formation of a new support group, the MAMM Alliance for the Performing Arts, was announced. Its mission and purpose will be to underwrite special guest artists, plays and performances; to support programs; and to underwrite special equipment or instruments for the CSUF College of the Arts. Board members of the MAMM Foundation — established in Mulville’s memory in 2001, to raise funds for and support the performing arts in Orange County — are the founders of the MAMM Alliance.

“We knew we wanted to form a new group to support programming for the Performing Arts Center,” says Jerry Samuelson, dean of the College of the Arts. “With MAMM coming over to the university family to be the core group of the MAMM Alliance, we know that their support and experience will help raise funds to bring exciting and quality programming to the center.”

During Tuesday’s reception in the university’s Performing Arts Center, MAMM feted its donors and supporters and presented gifts to the foundation’s beneficiaries that also had supported the organization’s myriad activities: Fullerton Civic Light Opera; Crittenton Services for Children and Families; Muckenthaler Cultural Center Foundation; Friends of Jazz; Fullerton Academy of the Arts Foundation, Fullerton High School; Celeste Guild, Support for Orange County Pacific Symphony; Orange County Pacific Symphony; and College of the Arts, Cal State Fullerton.

Fullerton residents Darcee Fessler and Barbara Sue Johnson were presented special awards by the MAMM Foundation for their early and ongoing support of the organization’s fundraising events and programs.

During the past five years, the MAMM Foundation raised $874,000 and donated to more than 35 nonprofit organizations and programs throughout Orange County. In 2003, the group hosted “Glamour, Glitz and Gilfry,” a black-tie gala starring Titan alumnus and opera star Rod Gilfry, to raise funds to name the Marcy Arroues Mulville Stage in new CSUF Performing Arts Center’s Meng Hall.

“Our goal was to fulfill Marcy’s dream to support nonprofit organizations benefiting the arts, medicine, children and adults,” says Ann Harvey, president of the MAMM Foundation. “This is a wonderful group of very dedicated women, and this is a one-time opportunity to continue Marcy’s legacy in perpetuity with this endowment.”

Members of the MAMM Foundation board are: Anaheim Hills resident JoAnn San Paolo; Brea resident Dee Gustafson; Fullerton residents Kathy Allred, Patty Anfinson, Gail Cochran, Jennifer Fitzgerald, Fran Gaglio, Barbara Gregory, Bobi Hirschbein, Irene McCormick, Mary Moore, Pat Perkins and Eva Schneider; Irvine resident Ann Harvey; Placentia resident Milly Heaton; and Yorba Linda resident Susan Katsaros.
