Almost 9,000 junior and senior high school students from across California submitted an entry — an essay, poster or television spot — calling on California leaders to keep the promise of college opportunity for all qualified students as stated in the 1960 Master Plan for Higher Education. More than 1,000 entries from Orange County were received, and the 20 winners will receive cash prizes totaling $10,500. Overall, 107 winners were chosen statewide for prizes totaling $70,000.
Wednesday’s ceremony is part of a 10-city “Save Me a Spot in College” tour that began June 8 with events in Sacramento, San Diego and Berkeley and will conclude Thursday with a celebration at Redding’s Turtle Bay Exploration Park. |
