“A dramatic increase in childhood obesity
over the past decade has made this an urgent public
health concern,” said Shari G. McMahan, director
of the CSUF Center for the Promotion of Healthy Lifestyles
and Obesity Prevention and professor of health science. “The
goal of this conference is to provide current examples
from community interventions and collaborations on
obesity and to discuss future directions.” |
Background: |
A founding member of the Society of Mexican American
Engineers and Scientists, Oaxaca spent more than three
decades at the Northrop Grumman Corp. He was a presidential
appointee to the National Science Board and to the
General Advisory Committee on Arms Control and Disarmament.
Oaxaca was named a Distinguished Fellow of the Institute
for the Advancement of Engineering and received a Lifetime
Achievement Award from the National Science Foundation.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering
from the University of Texas, El Paso, and was a Sloan
Executive Fellow at Stanford’s Graduate School
of Business.
