Background:

Cabaret opened in 1966, winning seven Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Score. The original production has been revived three times and a 1972 film version starred Liza Minnelli (a role which earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress). In the CSUF production, Megan Bayha plays Sally Bowles, Andrew Scott is Clifford and Ian McDavid is cast as the Master of Ceremonies.

Set in a sleazy Berlin nightclub in 1929, Cabaret follows the adventures of Clifford Bradshaw, an impoverished American writer traveling Europe to find inspiration. As he meets Sally Bowles and enters the Kit Kat Klub, he finds that his adventure in a corrupt pre-Hitler Germany really begins. The CSUF production is being billed as "sexually-charged" and "for adults only."

Director James Taulli, a professional director and theatre faculty member at CSUF, says of the play, "this musical shows the dangers of escapism, and what can happen to not only an individual, but a whole society when we as a people refuse to see things for what they really are."

Todd Muffatti is the scenic designer, Abel Zeballos is the costume designer, Susan Hallman is the lighting designer, Jennifer Ashrafina is the make-up designer, and the sound designer is John Fisher.
