Chinese Authors Read, Sign Books at CSUF Library May 4

Who/What: Yiyun Li will be at Cal State Fullerton to read from and sign their books as part of CSUF's author series "Memory and Migration: Conversations with Chinese Women Writers."

Who:

Yyun LiYiyun Li's book "A Thousand Years of Good Prayers" (2005) is the winner of the 2006 PEN/Hemingway Award and the inaugural Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award (2005). Li also won a Plimpton Prize from the Paris Review, and a Pushcart prize. Li, who grew up in Beijing and moved to the United States in 1996, has had many of her stories and essays published in such publications as The New Yorker, Paris Review and the New York Times Magazine. She was named by the Los Angeles Times as one of the three authors to watch in 2005.

Why: "This series brings international and cross-cultural experiences to Cal State Fullerton, said Renae Bredin, associate professor of women's studies and coordinator of the university's Women's Studies Program. "These Chinese women writers will read from their work and discuss history, memory, migration and culture from historical and personal perspectives."
