With an eye to the future and a continued commitment to learning in retirement at Cal State Fullerton, Continuing Learning Experience (CLE) has become an Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). To honor the foundation built on campus over the course of almost 28 years, the organization’s motto is: “A continuing learning experience.”
In addition to offering its ongoing slate of programs geared toward retired and semiretired individuals, the OLLI at Cal State Fullerton is now part of a network of 93 Osher institutes — including 17 within the CSU and those at all UC campuses — in 39 states.
Supported by the San Francisco-based Bernard Osher Foundation, member organizations have access to a national resource center and annual meetings, where leaders can share research, strategies in education and ideas about curriculum.
“The university is pleased to be a part of the national network of Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes,” says Harry Norman, dean of university extended education. “We will continue to respectfully acknowledge the CLE heritage, its founders and its successes.”
Cal State’s Fullerton’s partnership with Osher began in 2003, when the foundation granted $100,000 to the university. Last year, CSUF received a second $100,000 gift, which will be used to further expand OLLI programs and services into the community, and promote the organization.
OLLI at Cal State Fullerton is a self-governing university support group of more than 675 retired and semiretired individuals dedicated to the pursuit of lifelong learning. Programs include self-directed study groups, educational lectures, physical and social activities, special events and travel opportunities.
