Hispanic Family-Owned Business Conference

Feb. 1, 2006 :: No. 123

What: Developing the right business and marketing plans are among the topics to be discussed March 1 during the third annual Hispanic Family-Owned Business Conference presented by Cal State Fullerton's Family Business Council and sponsored by Bank of America, Excelsior Newspapers and the Orange County Register. Participants will have opportunities to network at the program's end.
Keynoters:

Mónica Lozano, publisher and CEO of La Opiníon. The Spanish-language daily was begun by the Lozano family in 1926.
Maria Marín, author of "Secretos de la Mujer Segura" (Secrets of a Confident Woman), columnist and public speaker on the art of negotiation.

When: 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, March 1

Bob Schult, president, VMG Equity Partners; Ray Vasquez, senior vice president, Bank of America; Carolina Flores, senior sales representative, Excelsior Newspapers; Daniel Villanueva Jr., president of Fontis Partners; CSUF alumnus Francisco Valle (M.B.A. '85), independent marketing consultant and co-author of "How to Win the Hispanic Gold Rush: Critical Cultural, Demographic, Marketing, and Motivational Factors"; J. Adalberto Quijada, Santa Ana district director, U.S. Small Business Administration; Jack McSunas, director, SCORE; and Linda Hoitt, consultant, Small Business Development Centers.

"Our goal is to provide best practices and business tips to members of Hispanic
and Latino family-owned business leaders," said Mike Trueblood, director of
CSUF's Family Business Council. "Recent research has shown that 80 percent
of all businesses are family owned, and many nationally recognized businesses
began as family-owned and operated. We recognize that they are a very important part of the Southern California economy."

 

Reservation:

The conference is free of charge to owners and members of Hispanic family-owned businesses. Fee for vendors and service providers is $250 per person. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 657-278-4182 or online
at www.csuffamilybusinesscouncil.com.

Additional:

The Family Business Council, established in 1994 within CSUF's College of Business and Economics, is a partnership between the business community and the university. Its mission is to enhance the well-being and survivability of family businesses by providing opportunities for education, interaction and information tailored to the needs and concerns of business. In addition to monthly workshops, the center offers several peer-group affinity discussion meetings and is involved in the university course, "Family Business Dynamics."
