Survey Finds 473% Return on Investment
for Santa Ana WORK Center

January 11, 2006 :: No. 105

What: The Social Science Research Center at Cal State Fullerton has completed a Return-on-Investment analysis for the Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board of clients served by its comprehensive one-stop center, the Santa Ana WORK Center. The estimated benefit resulting from public (governmental) investment in the services provided by the WORK Center during the 2003-2004 program year corresponds to a 473 percent return. These findings will be presented Friday.
Benefits: The survey found that the WORK Center’s services provided to its clients result in: additional tax revenue from those who get jobs; additional tax revenue from the businesses patronized by these individuals, as their income and spending increase; and a reduction in public support for them.
Method: A random sample of 415 people who used the WORK Center were surveyed by telephone in English and Spanish.
When/Where: Friday, Jan. 13 , at 8 a.m.
Rancho Santiago Community College District, boardroom
2323 N. Broadway, Santa Ana
Additional: The U.S. Workforce Investment Act and other government grants and contributions fund the Santa Ana WORK Center, which provides services for the unemployed and those seeking better-paying jobs. Services include job training and education, job searching and resume-writing help. It also provides services to companies interested in hiring and retaining employees.
