University Breaks 35,000-Student Enrollment Mark
Fall semester enrollment largest in university history.

October 13, 2005

Cal State Fullerton is serving more students than it ever has in university history, according to recently released fall census figures.

Six weeks after the start of the fall semester — the official census date — there are 35,040 students enrolled in classes — an increase of more than 2,000 from the fall 2004 figure of 32,744. Included in the record enrollment are 3,027 students who are attending courses at the Cal State Fullerton Irvine Campus; 1,019 are in classes solely at that site.

Females remain in the majority among students at 59 percent, a decrease of one percent from last year. New students increased by 350 over the fall 2004 number, but the growth in students comes from continuing students, which increased by 1,988, said officials in Admissions and Records. In addition, more than 64 percent of the university student body is enrolled in 12 or more units.

The fall full-time equivalent student (FTES) count also is a record high at 25,975, an increase of more than 1,800 from fall 2004. One FTE equals 15 units of student course work and is the basis for allocating state funding to the campus.
