Hurricane Relief Effort Generates Aid
CSUF has collected more than $5,000
for the American Red Cross to use towards victims of Hurricane
Katrina
Hundreds of students, faculty members
and staffers donated more than $5,000 on Wednesday and Thursday
during Cal State Fullerton’s “Donate a Dollar”
campaign to support Hurricane Katrina relief efforts of the
American Red Cross. Dozens of volunteers spent six hours at
the main and Irvine campuses collecting individual and group
donations.
“The response from students, faculty
and staff members has been gratifying,” said Judith
Anderson, executive vice president and Orange County Red Cross
board member. “The Cal State Fullerton community has
shown that it cares a great deal about those affected by Hurricane
Katrina and wants to help as much as possible.”
Relief efforts are ongoing at the Irvine
campus through next week, said Frances Teves, acting associate
director of advocacy.
From 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept.
7 and Thursday, Sept. 8, students, faculty and staff members
were asked to donate $1 for Gulf Coast hurricane relief efforts.
Tables were set up in the Quad and along the pathway leading
to the Titan Bookstore. Information on disaster preparedness,
as well as additional ways to help, were disseminated by the
Associated Students Inc. and the Volunteer & Service Center.
Over the Labor Day weekend, donations
were collected at the entrance gates to Titan soccer matches
and the women’s volleyball tournament. The $165 donated
will be turned over to the American Red Cross.
