CSUF to Host JPL's Invention Challenge Nov. 19

What: Can budding engineers design and build a machine that can light a match in 20 seconds? Judges will find out Saturday when Cal State Fullerton hosts the Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s annual Invention Challenge southern region competition.
When: Saturday, Nov. 19
10 a.m.
Who: Close to 200 high school and middle school students from throughout Southern California are expected to participate in the “Strike a Match” contest. The top five groups from the 21-team field will qualify for the final round of the Invention Challenge set for Dec. 2 at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena.

Additional: Peter Othmer, CSUF professor of mechanical engineering, will lead a group of judges from the business community, including representatives from Boeing, Fluor and the Los Angeles International Airport.
