A $30,000 gift from Monrovia-based Parasoft Corp. has been awarded to Cal State Fullerton’s College of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) to benefit and promote such efforts as student awards/projects, faculty scholarship and classroom exchanges with professionals.

A third of the donation is allocated to the ECS Affiliates program, a partnership among the university, private industry and the community to enhance educational and career opportunities for students through the support and development of programs, technical infrastructure, student and faculty research, and cooperative educational relationships in the classroom and workplace.

The gift also will fund awards to outstanding students and projects of the first graduating class of the college’s new online master’s degree program in software engineering.

Supporting a continuing need for more diligent and effective software development methodologies, $15,000 of the gift will help fund a project of Dorota Huizinga, acting associate dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science and professor of computer science. She is developing a textbook aimed at software engineering graduate students and professionals.

The book, which is being co-authored by Parasoft founder and CEO Adam Kolawa, will focus on Automated Error Prevention (AEP), an industry best practice and methodology that automates the development process to help software organizations learn from their and other’s mistakes to prevent software errors from being repeated.

Parasoft Corp., a leading provider of AEP software solutions, develops and markets proprietary development tools and solutions to help companies eliminate and prevent software errors. The company was founded in 1987.

With the book, noted Huizinga, “We’re trying to bridge the gap between academic research and the practical needs of the software industry.”
