Silas Abrego, associate vice president
for student affairs at Cal State Fullerton and a 1968
graduate of Santa Ana College, will be inducted into the
Santa Ana College Alumni Hall of Fame later this month. |
| What: |
As associate vice president, Silas Abrego oversees nine
university programs, including Student Academic Services,
International Education and Exchange, Athletics Academic
Advisement, the Women’s Center/Adult Re-entry, University
Learning Center and Career Center. He also supervises
several educational enhancement programs, including GEAR
UP Anaheim, the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement
Program and Upward Bound. |

| Background: |
Abrego joined Cal State Fullerton in 1985 and was named
associate vice president in 1998. Prior to that, he served
as director of Student Academic Services and University
Outreach and was responsible for integrating student retention
and outreach strategies into the academic environment.
Before coming to CSUF, he was state coordinator of the
National Education Policy Fellowship Program. He has a
master’s degree and doctorate in higher education,
governance and management from USC. He received a bachelor’s
degree in industrial arts from Cal State Long Beach and
an associate’s degree in industrial arts from Santa
Ana College. He also has been honored by the Hispanic
Chamber of Commerce of Orange County, Orange County United
Way, Orange County Hispanic Education Endowment Fund,
Hispanic Bar Association of Orange County, Hispanic Outreach
Taskforce and Western Association of Educational Opportunity
Personnel. |

Silas Abrego is one of five inductees to this year’s
Hall of Fame class, bringing the total number of honorees
to 158. Along with the induction ceremony, he will also
participate in the college’s commencement ceremony.
