Conference on Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 Compliance

What: How have businesses been reacting to 404 filings? What best practices are emerging? How can internal controls be incorporated into an organization’s culture? Business leaders, accountants and auditors can learn more about the new legislation enacted to improve financial reporting by publicly traded companies, during a half-day conference sponsored by Cal State Fullerton’s Center for Corporate Reporting and Governance.
Keynoters: Carol Stacey, chief accountant in the Division of Corporate Finance for the Securities and Exchange Commission, will discuss the reactions to 404 filings received by the SEC, while Gary Holstrum, associate chief auditor and director of research for the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, will speak on current issues under discussion by the board. Glenn Burr, audit partner, Ernst and Young; Dean Samsvick, managing partner, KPMG Orange County; and Thomas A. Madden, former chief financial officer, Ingram Micro, will discuss best practices and other 404 implementation issues.

Background:

The Center for Corporate Reporting and Governance was established in 2003 within the College of Business and Economics to disseminate information on current financial reporting issues and interpretations of financial rules.

The center is directed by Vivek Mande, professor of accounting and a 2001-02 Academic Accounting Fellow at the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Office of Economic Analysis in Washington, D.C.
