A newly formed group of educators and business and community leaders will focus their efforts on building support for Cal State Fullerton's new College of Education.

The 11-member CSUF College of Education Advancement Board will hold its inaugural meeting tomorrow, Jan. 20, on campus.

The founding members are: Newport Beach resident Marian Bergeson, a member of the California Transportation Commission who formerly served as state secretary of education, senator and assemblywoman; Huntington Beach resident and CSUF alumna Rachelle Cracchiolo, president and founder of Teacher Created Materials and former elementary school teacher; Laguna Beach resident Edward B. Fry, emeritus professor of education and former director of the Reading Center at Rutgers University; Huntington Beach resident John Reynolds Gardiner, children's author and adaptor of children's stories for television; CBS 2 News anchor Harold Greene of Los Angeles , Placentia resident and alumna Peggy Hammer, former teacher, reading specialist and reading supervisor and longtime Titan supporter; Fullerton resident Deborah Osen Hancock, emeritus professor of education and first woman dean of education in the CSU system (Bakersfield); also of Fullerton, Barbara R. “The quality of the College of Education Advancement Board is humbling,” says Ashley Bishop, acting dean of the College of Education . “The members bring rich, varied backgrounds and accomplishments to the college. On our board, we have the author of a best-selling children's novel, an innovative and successful business leader, the first women dean of education in the CSU system, an anchorman for a major network, and individuals with long and rich Fullerton service histories.”

The board's mission is to enhance the teaching, outreach and research efforts of the College of Education and strengthen its ability to meet the educational needs of Orange County and surrounding service areas. To that end, board members have committed to such goals as enriching the college's connections with educational, civic and government agencies; enhancing ties between the college and alumni; generating strategies for expanding research efforts of the college through new funding opportunities; and providing strategies for development and fund raising.
