Promoting Financial Literacy

Students Put on Lunch Time Program

In an effort to promote the importance of financial literacy and increase awareness of Financial Literacy Awareness Month, students from the Theatre and Dance Department will be sharing information about financial literacy in song, using music from Jonathan Larson’s rock musical “Rent” at noon and 12:45 p.m. April 5 in the Becker Amphitheater.

The program was the brainchild of Tim Alexander, a theatre arts major, Guardian Scholar and student assistant with the student affairs financial literacy program.

“It was only a few months ago that I was meeting with Tim,” said Elahe Amani, director of student affairs technology services and creator of the online financial literacy program on campus. “I told him that I had always wanted to bring a standup comedian to campus for Financial Literacy Month and he said, ‘Perhaps a musical ...’ and I said, ‘wonderful.’ Can you put it together?”

The all-student production features a cast of Brandon Burks — who also serves as director and choreographer — Rachel Burkert, Rubén Carbajal, Ethan Corbett, Anna Crosett, Chelle Denton, Emily Goedken, Melissa Haygood, Sammi Hildebrandt, Bren Johnson, Lauren Johnson, Kellianne Safarik, Jackie Summers, Tommy Tafoya, Chat Takeda, Jacob Thomson and Ellie Wyman.
