Celebrating the Arts

‘Art of the Titan’ Feb. 24-March 4

A 10-day celebration of the arts, dubbed “Art of the Titan,” showcases dance, music, theater, and visual arts offerings and activities on campus through March 4. The Arts Inter-Club Council, Associated Students Inc. and College of the Arts are the event’s sponsors and organizers.

Beyond music, theater and dance performances being staged in the Clayes Performing Arts Center and exhibitions in the various galleries, students and faculty members will bring arts-related activities into the Quad and also welcome visitors to select studios and workrooms for demonstrations of glassblowing, ceramics making, mold making and metalworking. Lectures on topics ranging from Japanese printmaking and working with clay to professional practices and marketing for artists are being presented by guest artists.

Special events include:

  • Feb. 27: “Toast the Dean” reception from 5-7:30 p.m. in the Kathryn T. McCarty Grand Foyer of the Clayes Performing Arts Center, featuring music performed by members of the Classical Guitar Club;
  • Feb. 28: College of the Arts Club Festival from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 28 along the walkway between the Titan Student Union and the Quad;
  • Feb. 28: Discussion of “A Safe Place to Embrace Race” hosted by the Multicultural Arts Council at 6 p.m. in the Titan Student Union’s Portola Pavilion;
  • Feb. 29: Visual and Performing Arts Networking Mixer from 2-4 p.m. in the Golleher Alumni House;
  • Feb. 29-March 4 2012 New Music Festival: The Composer/Performer in the 21st Century ,featuring guest artists and a computer-performer symposium; and
  • Closing reception for the “No Regrets” faculty exhibition in the Begovich Gallery Courtyard from 5-7 p.m. March 2.
  • The March 3 Downtown Santa Ana Art Walk, which features arts, crafts and live entertainment and is anchored by the university’s Grand Central Art Center in the heart of the Artists Village, is part of the celebration.
