Campus to Accept Applications for Spring 2012

Students completing their sophomore year of college study at a community college are eligible to apply for transfer to Cal State Fullerton for the spring 2012 semester. The filing period opened Aug. 1.

Despite severe budget cuts, a number of California State University campuses are open to applicants for the spring 2012 term, primarily to serve eligible, upper-division transfer students.

“The CSU is working to ensure that transferring community college students can continue their education and achieve a bachelor's degree,” said Ephraim P. Smith, CSU executive vice chancellor and chief academic officer. “Helping transfer students complete their degree is a priority.”

Cal State Fullerton is accepting applications from upper-division transfer students, those with 60 or more transferable units who have completed the basic subjects of General Education with grades of C or better and have strong overall academic records.

Because CSUF is fully “impacted” — having attracted more applicants than can be accommodated — prospective students are being encouraged to consider also applying to non-impacted CSU campuses, in order to broaden their chances for continuing their education within the CSU.

Prospective students are advised to visit the CSUMentor status page for information on which campuses are accepting applicants. Current and future applicants may visit CSUMentor to apply or find information on program offerings, financial aid and academic planning throughout the CSU.

At Cal State Fullerton, the requirements for admission for local upper-division transfer applicants will exceed the minimum 2.0 GPA required for those at non-impacted CSU campuses. Out-of-area students will be held to a higher GPA admissions standard than local students.

The caliber of competition and the number of admissions offers made will depend on the number of applications received during this month’s initial filing period.

For applicants to be eligible, all General Education basic subjects (speech, English composition, critical thinking and GE math) must be completed by the end of this summer.
