Human Communication Recognized for Faculty Research, Authorship

The Communication Institute for Online Scholarship recently rated the Human Communication Department a “Top Ten” for research in one or more areas of disciplinary research. 

CIOS tracked article publications by faculty members at more than 700 programs in the U.S. and Canada. Each department so named had faculty members who have collectively published a minimum of three articles on a tracked subject, such as intercultural and nonverbal communications. 

Individual faculty members ranked among the “leading scholars” were:

Stella Ting-Toomey, the university’s 2007-08 Outstanding Professor Award recipient, is listed as a leading global expert in European, Asian, Pacific Rim, intercultural, conflict, interpersonal, nonverbal, and marriage and intimacy communications, as well as research methods.

Jason Teven was recognized in communication education, cognition and communication, personality and psychology, communication competence, gender, interpersonal and nonverbal communications.

Perry Pauley made the list in health and interpersonal communications; Jon Bruschke for debate and the study of communication in the law; and Robert Gass for debate and argumentation.
