Grads Accepted Into Doctoral Incentive Program
Four Cal State Fullerton graduates are returning to classrooms this fall on their way to earning doctoral degrees, thanks to the California State University Chancellor’s Doctoral Incentive Program.
Established in 1987, it is the largest program of its kind in the United States. The incentive program provides student loans of up to $10,000 a year to attend doctoral programs at accredited universities throughout the United States. After earning their degrees, if participants obtain a position within the university system, a portion of their loan is forgiven.
As of June, the program has loaned $40 million to more than 1,800 doctoral students enrolled in universities throughout the nation. More than 1,000 participants have succeeded in earning their doctorate with 57 percent have those subsequently obtaining employment as a CSU faculty member.
CSUF alumni selected to participate this year are:
• Tustin resident Erin Arruda (B.A. psychology ’09), will be seeking a doctorate in psychology from UCLA
• Nicole Dabbs of La Habra (B.S. kinesiology ’08, M.S. kinesiology ’10) will be attending the University of Mississippi’s doctoral program in exercise science
• Justin Myrick of South Pasadena (B.A. anthropology ’09, M.A. anthropology ’11) seeks a doctorate in anthropology from UCLA
• Santa Ana resident Diamond Nguyen (B.S. kinesiology ’07, M.S. kinesiology ’08) will attend the public health in preventive care program at Loma Linda University
