Persian Calligraphy and Miniatures
Iranian Artists on Exhibit in Pollak Library
For a short, two-week period, campus and community members can see the artwork of husband and wife artists Azizollah Golkarzadeh and Pooran Maleki in the Atrium Gallery of the Pollak Library.
Opening Thursday, April 21, and continuing through Saturday, May 7, is “Persian Calligraphy and Miniatures,” a traveling exhibit that has been shown in several countries, as well as the United States.
An award-winning artist, Golkarzadeh is known for his creations that combine calligraphy and painting. He has authored more than a dozen books, teaches at the Arts of Iran Comprehensive Applied Science University and is manager of the Golkar visual arts school in Tehran.
A miniature created by Pooran Maleki
Maleki is a celebrated artist whose miniature creations have been shown in six individual exhibitions in Iran. She is the director of the GOL Cultural and Artistic Institute and director of GOL Gallery, a member of the Iranian Miniature Society and has authored two books on carpet pattern and illumination.
The exhibit was curated by Veronica Chiang, director of the Atrium Gallery, with the translation and coordination assistance of Michelle Samadi of Student Financial Services.
