SCERP Scholars Are Award Winners at Fall Meeting
Student scholars in the Southern California Ecosystems Research Program, funded by the National Science Foundation Undergraduate Research and Mentoring in Biology Program, presented posters and garnered awards at the fall meeting of the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science in San Jose.
Student poster award winners were:
- Jacqueline Arroyo for her work on the distribution and physiology of an invasive alga with Jennifer Burnaford, Biological Science;
- Mauricio Gomez and Andres Cisneros for their research — under Burnaford and William J. Hoese, Biological Science — investigating how exposure to elevated low-tide temperatures impacts predation risk in intertidal turban snails; and
- Cheryl Sevilla for her work on light reflectance and water stress in desert plants with Darren R. Sandquist, Biological Science.
