Exploring Steinbeck
Faculty Participate in ‘Grapes of Wrath’ Library Program
As Fullerton Public Library launches its citywide reading program, Fullerton Reads, many Cal State Fullerton professors are offering their expertise in a series of lectures scheduled throughout the fall. The lectures are all tied to themes or places in John Steinbeck’s novel “The Grapes of Wrath.”
Among those who will be speaking is Andi Stein, associate professor of communications, who will discuss “Route 66” on Tuesday, Oct. 5. Stein will provide information on the history of the “mother road” and what life on the road is like today.
Gustavo Arellano, who teaches a Chicana and Chicano studies class and is author of the memoir, “Orange County: A Personal History,” will compare and contrast the experiences of the Hispanic community to those of the characters in the novel Tuesday, Oct. 12.
Also taking part will be Benjamin Cawthra, assistant professor of history, who will lead a Thursday, Oct. 14, discussion on the classic novel itself.
All three programs begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Osborne Auditorium of the main library, 353 W. Commonwealth Ave., Fullerton. Other lectures, films and readings are offered as part of the Fullerton Reads Program. For more information visit the library website.
