New Parking Structure Halfway
Completed
February 13, 2004
Construction on the university’s Nutwood
Parking Structure has reached the halfway point. Located
at the corner of State College Boulevard and Nutwood Avenue, the
project — when completed — will be the largest structure
on campus at 771,792 square feet. Since contractors broke ground
June 3, more than 18,000 cubic yards of concrete and 20,000 tons
of reinforcing steel have been placed for the five-story structure,
designed for 2,500 cars. The only other parking structure on campus
was built in 1979, adjacent to the Cobb Residence Halls and can
hold up to 199 cars. Completion is expected in the fall on the $24
million project funded through parking fees.
