Family Businesses Learn About Succession Planning

What: Planning for continuity of the family firm will be under discussion at a Dec. 9 workshop on “Succession Planning” sponsored by the Cal State Fullerton’s College of Business Administration and Economics Family Business Council.
   
Who: Otis Baskin, professor of management at Pepperdine University and an associate of the Family Business Consulting Group Inc., will discuss the different types of leadership transition, how to overcome resistance to transferring powers, how to prepare a business for succession, and the process for choosing a successor, as well as ides for new roles, new careers and post-retirement activities.
   
When: 7:30 - 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9
   
Where: Mr. Stox Restaurant, 1105 E. Katella, Anaheim

The Family Business Council, established in 1994, is a partnership between the business community and Cal State Fullerton. Its mission is to enhance the well-being and survivability of Southern California family businesses by providing opportunities for education, interaction and information tailored to the needs and concerns of family businesses.

   
Upcoming: The council hosts monthly workshops on a wide range of topics: upcoming sessions will address leadership and delegation in January, compensation for family and non-family employees in February and conflict resolution in March.
