print

March 12, 2003 :: No.170

“The First Americans: Anthropological and Native American Perspectives” is the theme of the 23rd annual Anthropology Symposium scheduled for Saturday, March 22, in the Portola Pavilion of the Titan Student Union.

The day's events - from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. - are free and open to the public.

Topics to be addressed are archaeology, culture, linguistics and “the peopling of the new world.” During the lunch break from 11:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m., the Eagle Spirit Dancers will perform in the Becker Amphitheater.

The symposium is sponsored by the Anthropology Student Association, Inter-Tribal Student Council, College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Intercultural Council.

Additionally, the campus anthropology exhibit, “Archaeological and Paleontological Curation,” is open through June 6. Exhibit hours are Mondays from noon-1:30 p.m., and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-6 p.m. or by special appointment.
