Concert Under the Stars and Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary Activities

Starlight Concert — Friday night’s 21st annual “Concert Under the Stars” at Cal State Fullerton will be staged rain or shine. About 3,500 are expected for the free program at 7:30 p.m. on the athletics fields north of Titan Gym. Outdoor dining begins at 6 p.m. Attendees are invited to bring blankets for lawn seating and picnic suppers. The university’s award-winning musical theatre students, alumni and guest artists will perform a revue of hits from 100 years of Broadway musicals. Before the concert begins, the university’s Volunteers of the Year will be honored, and the city of Fullerton’s centennial will be recognized by CSUF President Milton A. Gordon, who is beginning his 15th year as leader of the 31,000-student university. A fireworks finale is scheduled, and free parking is available.

Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary Activities — Spiders and the bugs they eat are the focus of a “Creepy Crawly Workshop” for youngsters slated for 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary in Modjeska Canyon. Sean Walker, assistant professor of biological science at Cal State Fullerton, is the featured program presenter. The cost is $4 per person at the door. An “End of Summer” fundraiser is set for 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18. A used book sale and presentation about birds of prey featuring live birds, plus musical entertainment and a display of quilts will be featured, along with root beer floats and baked goods. Admission is $5. Located at 29322 Modjeska Canyon Road in south Orange County, the sanctuary is a nature preserve operated by the university. Additional information: (714) 649-2760.
