Titan's Day of Service Beginning the school year can be as overwhelming as
it is exciting. Entering a big university like Cal State Fullerton,
with students constantly on the go, can make it hard to adjust and
consequently make it hard to meet new people. Becoming a part of
a volunteer effort can help to ease the transition to college. Volunteering
goes beyond just serving the community; it helps develop lifelong
friendships with not only fellow students but community members.
This is a great opportunity for new students to get involved, build
on their resume, and be a part of lasting community. As students start preparing for the stimulating lectures,
lengthy readings, and the life that comes along with being in college,
we cannot forget about the many social ills that plague our community.
Consider this: there are well over 27,000 people living in Orange
County that are homeless and many more are living way below the
poverty line. Also, Southern California is one of the most heavily
polluted regions in the nation with many of its natural habitat
being torn down or replaced by plants that harm more than they protect
our environment. This isn’t news to most of us. We know the state
of affairs and wonder what we can do about it. In response to this,
Cal State Fullerton’s Housing & Residential Life, Volunteer
& Service Center and New Student Orientation is sponsoring “Titan’s
Into the Community Service Day”- aimed at doing our
part to clean up our environment and address poverty in our community. Participating in this program will also give new students
a chance to make friends as the school year begins while helping
others. If every one of us spends just a couple hours volunteering,
Orange County will be a better place to live! Here are the following events where your service can
have an everlasting effect on your community:Saturday, August 28, 2004
“Pack a Box” @ Orange County Food Bank, Garden Grove
              (8:45am-12noon)
