Casey Foundation Gives to Guardian Scholars
December 23, 2004 :: 109
The Annie E. Casey Foundation has granted $50,000
to Cal State Fullerton’s Guardian Scholars program, following
a campus visit by a foundation representative and a recommendation
by CSUF alumnus and 2004 Vision & Visionaries honoree Joe Moderow
(B.A. economics ’70), retired senior vice president, legal
and public affairs, general counsel and corporate secretary, UPS.
Founded in 1948 by UPS founder Jim Casey and his siblings in honor
of their mother, the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s mission is
to help build better futures for millions of disadvantaged children
who are at risk of poor educational, economic, social and health
outcomes. Guardian Scholars was launched in fall 1998, and recognizes
the achievements and ambitions of students striving to earn a college
degree and who have left the foster care system, were wards of the
court or come from similar backgrounds.
