Background: |
CSUF Opera Theatre annually presents a program
comprised of opera excerpts and one-acts each fall providing
performance opportunities for university opera students. Accompanied
by duo piano, singers perform on a minimally designed stage.
In addition, students participate in all aspects of opera
production from staging, set-design and lighting to costumes,
props and make-up.
Janet Smith, mezzo-soprano, teaches voice and opera. She
is especially noted for her musically sensitive and intelligent
interpretation of the oratorio repertoire. Smith has appeared
as guest soloist across the country with the Indianapolis
Symphony, Utah Symphony, Spokane Symphony, Anchorage Basically
Bach Festival, El Paso Pro Musica, Oklahoma Symphony and others.
Mark Salters is opera co-director, vocal coach and pianist
at California State University, Fullerton. He has accompanied
master classes by many well-known singers and coaches including
Carlo Bergonzi, Sherill Milnes, Madame Régine Crespin,
Richard Bonynge, Rodney Gilfry, Marni Nixon and more. As an
active freelance accompanist, Salters regularly accompanies
many of the finest young vocal artists of the L.A. Opera and
Opera Pacific in recitals and competitions. |
