Program: |
Entitled "A Double Trilogy of Triumph
and Tragedy" the Department of Music’s opera theatre
program presents scenes from Puccini's “Suor Angelica,”
Mozart's “Die Entführung aus dem Serail,”
“Die Zauberflöte” and “Cosí
fan tutte,” Britten's “The Rape of Lucretia”
and Monteverdi's “L'Incoronazione di Poppea.”

|
Background: |
When asked why the title of "A Double Trilogy
of Triumph and Tragedy" for this year’s scenes, director
Janet Smith replied, “I chose Double Trilogy because we
will be presenting six scenes, the Triumph comes from individual
conquests of characters from “Cosi,” “Poppea”
and “Magic Flute” and the Tragedy reflects the poignant
scenes pulled from “Suor Angelica” and “Rape
of Lucretia.”
Each fall CSUF opera theatre presents a program of opera excerpts
and one-acts designed to provide performance opportunities for
student singers. Participants are also given the opportunity
to participate in all aspects of opera production from staging,
costumes and props to make-up, set design and lighting. This
is just a part of the overall opera theatre program, which was
recently recognized in Classical Singer Magazine for
providing excellence in the training of young singers for professional
operatic careers. |
