California State University, Fullerton’s Department of Theatre and Dance, a national award winner and leader in theatre and dance education announces its 2003 spring season.

William Shakespeare’s “The Merry Wives of Windsor” opens up the spring season, February 28–March 9, 2003 in the Little Theatre. The play is set in Windsor, Connecticut in 1957 as Sir John Falstaff engages in an ill-fated romantic skirmish with two 50’s housewives. Dr. Joseph Arnold directs.

“A Piece of My Heart” by Shirley Lauro and directed by Rita Reneé, chronicles six women who survive Vietnam. It plays March 14 – 23, 2003.

“A. . .My Name is Alice,” conceived by Joan Micklin Silver and Julianne Boyd, explores contemporary women through musical revue-style story telling. This show will run March 15 – 23, and is directed by James Haffner.

Coordinated by Gladys Kares, the Spring Dance Theatre runs April 10-13, 2003. Choreography by CSUF faculty and students is presented.

“Candide,” book adaptation from Voltaire by Hugh Wheeler, with music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Richard Wilbur and additional lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and John Latouche earned four 1974 Tony Awards and the New York Critics Circle Award for Best Musical. Directed by Dean Hess, “Candide” will be performed with orchestra April 25 – May 4, 2003. “Candide” is a College of the Arts production.

Phyllis Nagy’s “The Talented Mr. Ripley” ends the Spring Season with James R. Taulli directing. This beguiling tale of morality and amorality follows criminal Tom Ripley as he is seduced by wealth, commits murder and attempts a cover up. “The Talented Mr. Ripley” performs May 16 –25, 2003.
